Chantel Ray: Hey, guys. Welcome to this week’s episode. We are so excited to have April Saull with us. She came on our podcast and it was such a big hit that we got so many questions from you guys, and so we wanted to have her back. April, give us a quick glimpse of your whole story about the cancer. Give us a quick update on that.
April Saull: Well, I had stage four breast cancer that had metastasized to my bones. I was in a wheelchair, and I went the natural route and cured myself in three months.
Chantel Ray: Wow, that’s so amazing. We’re going to get right into our questions. This is from Joanne in Virginia Beach. We had put out that you were coming on this show, and these are the questions we got. “I’m a big fan of April’s, and I love following her on Instagram, and Facebook. I can’t believe how incredible her body looks. Not only is she thin, but she is strong and fit. What kind of workouts do you do to stay so chiseled?”
April Saull: Well, I do everything from home. I just have some dumbbells, I have a bench, and I have a pull-up bar that I put in my doorway. I do everything from home-
Chantel Ray: Would you say that really … I believe that 90% of people, it’s their diet, would you agree with that?
April Saull: Yes.
Chantel Ray: It’s just 90% diet, 10% workout. Tell everyone a little bit about what your diet looks like. What are you eating these days?
April Saull: I don’t eat breakfast. I fast in the morning, and then I have a smoothie, my big smoothie that we’re always talking about, for lunch.
Chantel Ray: What does that smoothie look like?
April Saull: It’s got three greens. It’s got spinach, arugula and kale. Three berries, mixed berries, organic. Then I do three seeds, I do apricot seeds, hemp seeds, and flax seeds.
Chantel Ray: The apricot seeds are so bitter.
April Saull: Yes.
Chantel Ray: I don’t know if anyone else has tried them, but they’re disgusting. Last time you came on the show, I actually bought some, and they were just so awful, I was like, “I can’t do it.” Because they’re really bitter. Can you taste them in your smoothie?
April Saull: No. No.
Chantel Ray: You can’t.
April Saull: Because of the lemon. I put a frozen lemon in there and that overpowers all of it.
Chantel Ray: What I’m going to do is I’m going to put this recipe on our site. If you look in the show notes, I’m going to put her exact recipe for this in the show notes. Tell us one more time. You take your lemon, you peel it, and you stick it in the freezer.
April Saull: No, get organic lemons, wash them really good, throw them in the freezer, then [inaudible 00:03:48] the entire thing, because the peel, when you freeze it, it changes the compounds and it’s super anti-cancer.
Chantel Ray: Really?
April Saull: Yes.
Chantel Ray: Oh, wow.
April Saull: Yes. And it overpowers and it makes it taste like a berry-lemon splash.
Chantel Ray: So it doesn’t taste bitter then?
April Saull: No. I put 30 in mine.
Chantel Ray: Wait, you put 30 lemons?
April Saull: 30 apricot seeds.
Chantel Ray: Oh, 30 apricot seeds.
April Saull: Yeah.
Chantel Ray: Okay, so you put 30 apricot seeds. I suggest not doing that many to begin with.
April Saull: Yes, definitely not.
Chantel Ray: I’m telling you right now. They are very bitter, and … we need to have you in my kitchen. That’s what we need to do. We need to have you come to my kitchen, and do, [inaudible 00:04:26] where we actually taste it and show how to make it.
April Saull: Yes, I would love to do that.
Chantel Ray: Let’s do that. Okay, so you put 30 apricot seeds.
April Saull: Yes, but it’s important that people know not to take that many right off hand, because it can make you sick. You definitely have to build up with those, but there are directions on the package.
Chantel Ray: Okay. So you take the apricot seeds, you take one frozen lemon. Let’s just say, what would you say, should you start with like five apricot seeds to start?
April Saull: Yeah, that would a good … maybe three of four.
Chantel Ray: Three or four.
April Saull: Three or four, see how it’s going to affect you first, because it’ll give you, it can make you feel nauseous, or give you a headache. Those are the symptoms.
Chantel Ray: So three to four and what do those apricot seeds have in it that is so amazing?
April Saull: Vitamin B17, and that’s that four parts, it’s two parts sugar, one part cyanide, and one part benzaldehyde. That scares people often, because of the cyanide. Benzaldehyde is toxic too. But when it’s locked up chemically together like that, it’s Amygdalin, and it’s non-toxic and any chemist can tell you that.
Chantel Ray: Okay.
April Saull: But, that’s actually how it works to cure cancer, because there is an unlocking enzyme only found in cancer cells called beta-glucosidase, and it unlocks-
Chantel Ray: Maybe we should tell people, start with one. Let’s start with one apricot seed. Make sure nothing bad happens, and then we can go from there.
April Saull: There’s nothing to be afraid of, I promise, I juice 30 every day.
Chantel Ray: Okay, okay. Let’s start with a few, then one full lemon, you freeze that, clean it, wash it, make sure it’s organic. You put spinach, arugula. Arugula is bitter in itself, so … I would skip the arugula. But keep going. The spinach.
April Saull: Okay. The three greens, the mixed berries, the three seeds-
Chantel Ray: What’s the … Kale is the other green?
April Saull: Yes. Spinach, arugula, and kale. Just a handful of each one. Then I do three powders. I do turmeric, it’s major cancer fighter, matcha green tea is great for breast cancer, and hemp protein, just because I don’t eat a lot of meat.
Chantel Ray: Yeah, okay. Perfect. That’s kind of every day, that’s your smoothie.
April Saull: Every day for the rest of my life.
Chantel Ray: So what happens? Let’s say you’re on vacation, I just got back from vaca- … well, I wasn’t on vacation, but I was gone out of town for business. But what do you do [inaudible 00:06:49]? Are you bringing that with you? Or are you just kind of like, “All right, I can go a couple of days without it.”
April Saull: Yeah. I usually go a couple days without it. And I’ll take vitamin B17 supplements, I get 500 milligrams, I’m taking 100 milligram now, since-
Chantel Ray: 100 milligram supplement of?
April Saull: Supplement of vitamin B17. But those are banned here. Those are banned here. You have to order those online. You are not going to be able to find those at The Heritage.
Chantel Ray: Gotcha. You feel like that B17 is really what’s done it [crosstalk 00:07:21]?
April Saull: Yes. Absolutely. I know others as well.
Chantel Ray: Wow. Okay. All right. There’s the smoothie, then what? Again, of course, people do not realize the power of fasting, and how it heals your body. It’s just so powerful. You’re may be having that at 11:00, 12:00 something like that, and what are you having after that?
April Saull: Then, it’s just a lot of raw fruits and vegetables throughout the day. I eat a lot of fruit. I know that you say you probably shouldn’t do that, but every time I get my sugar checked, they’re always like, “That’s really good.” They kind of make a deal out of it. I eat tons of raw, fresh fruit, organic. Especially now with the whole Monsanto thing, and it’s got to be-
Chantel Ray: What would you say to someone that said, “Obviously, cancer feeds on sugar.” Some people say, if you have some cancer things going on, even though fruit is amazing for you, cut back on some of that fruit. What would you say to that?
April Saull: I don’t know. I don’t want to say either way, because I’m not 100% sure and I would never want steer everyone in the [inaudible 00:08:34] direction.
Chantel Ray: But for you it’s working, so.
April Saull: I think anything from the earth would be good. I don’t get too deep into all of the theories and all that. If it’s from the earth, we didn’t come with a rule book, we do know it’s-
Chantel Ray: So you’re not eating meat right now, right? Meats [crosstalk 00:08:51] or are you eating a little bit?
April Saull: I do have a little. I do. It’s maybe once or twice a month, though.
Chantel Ray: It’s kind of just grass-fed, organic?
April Saull: Yes. My father-in-law, they bring organic cows down from Ohio. [inaudible 00:09:08] family ground, so that’s nice to know.
Chantel Ray: Yeah. We are going to have someone on this show that’s going to specifically talk about having … ordering that meat from an actual farm so that you know, “Hey this is fresh, this is organic.” Okay, then what does dinner look like for you?
April Saull: You know, I sometimes eat with my family, a lot of times if it’s something I can have, I’m just eating fruits and vegetables. I eat throughout the day, so there’s not a chunk of time when I’m not eating and then I go eat dinner. I’m full kind of already when dinner comes. It’s just raw fruits and vegetables mostly.
Chantel Ray: Yeah, raw fruits and vegetables. [crosstalk 00:09:48].
April Saull: Water and plants.
Chantel Ray: That’s awesome. Love it.
April Saull: It’s all about habit. You know. It’s like, “How do I give up pizza?” You know, you just kind of got to.
Chantel Ray: Now, let me ask you this, if there was a gluten free piece of toast, would you eat that or no? You would just say, “No, thank you.”
April Saull: I watch my carbs a lot, because that turns to sugar, you know, if you don’t use that energy. I just watch my carbs.
Chantel Ray: Would you eat that piece of gluten-free toast or probably not?
April Saull: Maybe, probably. It just depends. If it was early in the day, I definitely stay away from that stuff in the evening. But yeah, I’m not that picky. I don’t want to sit here and act like I’m perfect. There are times, especially when you go out to eat, it’s very hard. I treat myself a little bit, because I don’t want to completely-
Chantel Ray: What about dairy, you pretty much stay away from all dairy, right?
April Saull: Yes. Yes. Yeah.
Chantel Ray: All right. Christie in Austin, she says, “I keep hearing great things about CBD oil, and I ordered some that’s supposed to taste like peppermint. The container says that I should take 20 drops, but I put it in water and it tastes nasty. Am I taking it wrong or is there a better way that I can do this or something else that I can mix with it?”
April Saull: I’ve heard of people taking dark chocolate with peppermint in it and eating, taking a bite of that right after they shoot the peppermint under their tongue, and then just take a bite of dark chocolate, [crosstalk 00:11:21] help.
Chantel Ray: Do you suggest … I’ve seen different CBD oils and some of them say to put it underneath your tongue, some of them says put it in water. What is your suggestion for it? Or is it depend on which CBD oil you take?
April Saull: Yeah, I don’t think it really matters, it’s just about getting it in. People put it in their coffee, that would kind of, you know, coffee is already kind of strong. That might help.
Chantel Ray: That’s a great idea.
April Saull: Really, I don’t think there’s any right way, or time of day, whatever works for you.
Chantel Ray: All right, Kara in Tampa, “Over night, it seems like everyone is talking about CBD oil. I have several friends that are distributing it, and everyone says theirs is the best.” I love that, that’s funny. “In your opinion, where is the best place to order CBD oil and is it worth it to pay for the more expansive brands?” I love this question because this is very true. I had posted something, because I was struggling with my autoimmune issues, and my thyroid was acting up, and I had posted something like, “Please, say a prayer.” I literally just got in flooded with people in my message box, it was like, “Oh, I’m selling CBD oil. Mine is the best.” I love this, because I actually had the same experience, kind of, when I had posted that. What is your opinion on that? Where would you look for?
If you said … a perfect example is if I looked at the back of a packaging, right? And there was crackers, I would say, “Let’s look at the ingredients,” I’d want to make sure there wasn’t carrageenan, or maltodextrin, those kind of things. Is there anything that you would say, “Why would this CBD oil-” I’ve heard, there’s one brand I heard that’s really fantastic, it’s called Charlotte’s Web. Have you heard of that one?
April Saull: That’s the one I was going to recommend.
Chantel Ray: Really?
April Saull: Yeah.
Chantel Ray: Okay, yes.
April Saull: Or Hempworx. I’ve had recently a lot of people telling me they’re having success with that one.
Chantel Ray: Yeah. What makes Charlotte Web so great?
April Saull: From the beginning of my journey, that is always the one I kept seeing over and over and over. They’re the ones that [crosstalk 00:13:32].
Chantel Ray: That one’s expensive too.
April Saull: Yes, it’s expensive. It’s about $150.
Chantel Ray: $150.
April Saull: For the advanced, for one ounce. So yeah. It’s expensive.
Chantel Ray: Okay. You would say Charlotte’s Web is your number one. Number two is, what was the other one?
April Saull: Hempworx. I’m hearing a lot about it, but I don’t have any experience with others. It’s hard for me to say.
Chantel Ray: Perfect. This is from anonymous. She did not give her name. “April’s podcast was so inspiring. I recently had a close family member diagnosed with brain cancer. She’s undergoing chemo and radiation after surgery, and it’s just so miserable. I’m trying so hard to convince her to consider an alternate approach, because I truly believe it has the power to heal her, but she’s so stuck on her doctor’s orders. What would you say to your family member if you were me?” That’s a great question.
April Saull: Yes. I would tie them up. And have them watch Run From The Cure, World Without Cancer-
Chantel Ray: Okay, hold on, let’s write these down, so Run For The Cure-
April Saull: From The Cure.
Chantel Ray: Run From The Cure.
April Saull: From, yes.
Chantel Ray: Okay. Is this a book, is this a podcast?
April Saull: This is a documentary.
Chantel Ray: I’ll put these in the show notes. This is a documentary. Okay.
April Saull: World Without Cancer is another documentary.
Chantel Ray: World Without Cancer, okay.
April Saull: That one is about vitamin B17.
Chantel Ray: Okay.
April Saull: Research the Endocannabinoid System and look up Rockefeller Medicine, that is going to give you the science, that’s going to give you the history, and that’s going to give you all the testimonials and everything else in-between. If you’re not convinced after looking at all of the pieces of the puzzle-
Chantel Ray: Watching all four of those. I think that’s really great advice because people, if they’re too close to you, they won’t listen. But if they’re watching the movie, or reading the book about it, those are great ones, and we’ll put those in. All right, Jamie in Connecticut, “In her podcast, April talked about how she did a ton of research and really educated herself after her diagnosis. If I wanted to do similar research on my own, where’s the best place to get started? What are some of your favorite resources?” So this is a similar question. Is there anything else besides those that you mentioned that you’d say this is-
April Saull: Yes. I listen to Bob Melamede about two hours every day. He is just an expert on this, and he’s just my favorite. He’s where I get all my information from.
Chantel Ray: Is this a podcast that he does?
April Saull: He has his own YouTube channel, and he talks at Cannafest, and he’ll talk to anybody. He’ll talk to anybody and he’s very interesting. He’s hard to understand because of the science he knows. But it makes sense once you start to understand it.
Chantel Ray: We’ll put that in the show notes as well, and that’s just a YouTube channel that you can listen to him and he’s doing shows and stuff like that.
April Saull: Yes. He’s a professor out in Colorado Springs.
Chantel Ray: Yeah. I have heard of him. Yes. Actually, I think I’ve talked to him on the phone, and I think we had talked about bringing him on the show. That would be a great-
April Saull: Really?
Chantel Ray: Yeah. That’d be great.
April Saull: That would be amazing.
Chantel Ray: We need to still look into that. It says, “My CBD oil just came in the mail, and I’m excited to get started. But I wanted to make sure I’m doing it right. What is the best time of day to take this? Should I take it with food or on empty stomach?” Aaron in North Carolina. That’s a great question.
April Saull: Yes, I think it’s always better to take it with food. But when you take it, there’s no perfect time of day, because it can affect everybody a little differently. If it makes you relax, you may want to take in the evening. If it energizes you, you may want to take in the morning. You’ll feel a very-
Chantel Ray: I’ve been, just because of my routine, so my assistant, she just help. I’ve got so much going on at all times, so she really keeps me going. I actually say to her, “11:00 every day, put it in a little cup, give me my 20 drops.” And she just hands it to me at 11:00, boom. It’s kind of like clockwork. But I think that’s the secret is you got to do at the same exact time every day on a time that you actually will do it, so that it’s consistent.
April Saull: Yes. I do that with everything, like working out, if I, you know, my whole day is messed up. I think when it’s routine, it’s easier.
Chantel Ray: Yeah, absolutely. Hey, guys, I’m so excited that my new book, Waist Away: The Chantel Ray Way, is now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and pretty much anywhere you can find books. But we also have the audiobook, the ebook, and my new recipe book that you can download all the recipes that I love that I make, and it’s super cheap. It’s all my favorites. Anyway, if you have a minute to write a review on Amazon, I would be ever grateful.
This is Alison in Virginia, she didn’t say what part of Virginia. “Can someone explain the difference in CBD oil, and cannabis. From my understanding, CBD oil is completely legal, but cannabis is still illegal in many states. I want to make sure I’m staying out of trouble, LOL, but I also want to make sure I’m taking advantage of some as many of the benefits legally as I can.” What would you say?
April Saull: Okay. The difference is, as you think of the plant in its entirety, it’s made up of over 120 different compounds, they’re discovering more and more every day. THC is one, CBD is one, CBG is one, CBN, the list goes on. Each one of those-
Chantel Ray: But the two main ones are?
April Saull: Yes, but the difference is-
Chantel Ray: Wait, the two main ones are TS-
April Saull: THC.
Chantel Ray: THC and CBD.
April Saull: And CBD. Yes.
Chantel Ray: THC is what makes you high.
April Saull: Exactly.
Chantel Ray: Or can make you high.
April Saull: Yes. That’s the psychoactive compound. CBD was extracted and isolated and legalized. It’s one compound from the plant, that’s CBD. Cannabis oil is all of the compounds from the plant, and that’s important because it’s the entourage effect of all of these cannabinoids working synergistically together. That’s how it works. CBD is great, because everyone of those compounds has its own list of therapeutic properties.
Chantel Ray: If you were going to tell people, like your best choice, if it was completely legal in Virginia or whatever state, because there’s tons of states that it is legal, you would say your best bet is to take with the CBD and the T-
April Saull: Yes, full extract.
Chantel Ray: The full extract, that’s where you’re going to get-
April Saull: And you have to have THC to cure cancer. I just don’t want people to think, “Oh, CBD. A run to the store is going to cure my cancer.” You have to have THC in there.
Chantel Ray: So the THC, which is illegal in some states, is really what you need to cure that cancer.
April Saull: Yes.
Chantel Ray: I heard that in Virginia, didn’t they say that with a doctor’s note, it’s now, they signed off on it, but it hasn’t fully been in effect yet?
April Saull: I couldn’t say. I don’t follow all those laws too closely. I’m not sure.
Chantel Ray: Right. Gotcha. Okay. Jennifer in Massachusetts. “I love listening to April’s podcast with her friend, she talks a lot about how she cleaned up her diet after her diagnosis. What would you say that are some of your top healing foods that I should focus on eating?”
April Saull: Everything in my smoothie, your phytonutrients will fight it. Anything that turns on fat burning. Like your Chinese herbs, vitamin D, things like that. Because that turns on autophagy, which is like recycling. It does the same thing as fasting.
Chantel Ray: As fasting.
April Saull: Yes. Those are good.
Chantel Ray: What would specifically so people can hear, what would you say those are?
April Saull: Any greens.
Chantel Ray: Any greens, yeah.
April Saull: Yes. Then, of course, the apricot seeds are key. Those are huge.
Chantel Ray: I will tell you, there’s an acai bowl that I make, and I’m starting to put, I literally now put, you can see it if you go to my YouTube channel, we’ll put that in the show notes, of my acai bowl that I make. But I do. I’m now putting in like four cups of spinach, and it’s really just four cups of spinach, one banana, some homemade almond milk, and some hemp protein powder, whatever. I’m telling you, when I take that, it’s like, it just really takes me to just a whole new level. But, unless you can just eat those four cups of spinach, or kale, or whatever it is, but that acai bowl that I make is absolutely amazing.
April Saull: I bet. I bet. It’s nice, you can be very generous with your greens, because you can’t really taste them.
Chantel Ray: What else? What are some of those things that create that autophagy?
April Saull: Anything that turns on fat burning. Chinese herbs.
Chantel Ray: What kind of Chinese herbs are you taking?
April Saull: Just various ones. Most of your herbs you’ll find do turn on fat burning.
Chantel Ray: Like you’re talking about like … when you say Chinese herbs, you’re not talking about like regular herbs like cilantro, and those kind of things.
April Saull: Most herbs do turn on fat burning. I can’t really say any specifically. Then I do the matcha green tea is huge in breast cancer, especially turmeric is huge on any cancer. Those are the big ones.
Chantel Ray: Do you make … it’s funny, I ordered a matcha green tea latte made with almond milk at Starbucks the other day, because I was like, “I felt like I wanted something.” But then I asked to see their almond milk ingredients, and then I was like, I took a couple sips and then I gave it to someone just because I’m really conscious of all the chemicals that I put in my body. The almond milk at Starbucks is ridiculous, it’s just literally loaded with chemicals, I can’t even believe it. But do you have like a matcha green tea latte recipe or anything that you’re doing or you’re putting that in the smoothie?
April Saull: I simple put the compounds in the smoothie. I don’t even know they’re there.
Chantel Ray: Yeah. Gotcha. All right. This next one is Karen in Chesapeake. “I recently ordered CBD oil and when I took it, I got extremely nauseous. I took 20 drops in my water, as the directions called for. Did I take too much or is this normal when you take it for the first time?”
April Saull: I would definitely bring it back a little bit, and then go from there. That’s all part of figuring out what works for you, it’s kind of trial and error.
Chantel Ray: Yeah, just slowly. Yeah.
April Saull: Yeah. Yeah.
Chantel Ray: And not give up, just try it again. Start with maybe five drops, then move to 10, then 15.
April Saull: Let your body get accustomed to it. Just like the apricot seeds.
Chantel Ray: Noah in Suffolk. “Can you put it into really simple terms the difference in CBD and THC oil? From what I understand, one is completely illegal, and the other isn’t. Do they have the same effect?” We kind of talked about this. But just dive in a little bit more of what the differences are in those trends.
April Saull: Okay. CBD is one compound out of over 120. Okay, isolated, legalized, and extracted. Then, the THC oil I think that he’s talking about is full extract, because it contains THC. That’s all of the cannabinoids. To think each one of those has its own little list of therapeutic properties, you’re taking all of them, that’s why they cure everything, you see it curing everything. That’s why and it’s-
Chantel Ray: If someone can get it, if someone can get it and they’re in a state that it’s legal, how would you suggest taking that entire compound? Let me ask you, have you seen people with really good results just with the CBD and not taking the whole thing?
April Saull: Not so much. This is the thing. CBD will inhibit the cancer and keep it from metastasizing, and THC will kill it. This is why you need them kind of both. They work together. So no, you need THC.
Chantel Ray: Okay, that’s great advice. So you’re saying if right now you have cancer, then you need to figure out a way to get the entire oil and figure out a way to maybe you need to move for a little while, or just get … take a chance.
April Saull: Yeah. The higher the THC the better. The higher you have, or gets, the better chance you’re going to have of getting healed. Yes.
Chantel Ray: Okay. But do you think the CBD is going to keep that cancer away, keep some of the inflammation down? I’ve heard some great things about, even with so many the autoimmune issues, and stuff like that, that it’s really helping with.
April Saull: Yes.
Chantel Ray: All right, Jennifer in Boston. “On your podcast with April, she talked a little bit about the endocannabinoid system, and how this is an untapped system in most of our bodies. Can you expand on this and explain it more? This is the first I’ve heard of it. Can my endocannabinoid system help regulate my thyroid function?”
April Saull: Absolutely.
Chantel Ray: First of all, explain in easy terms what is your endocannabinoid system.
April Saull: Okay. Your endocannabinoid system is you make cannabis-like compounds in your body naturally. The compounds that the plant is made of, you make those naturally in your body. But when they’re inside, they call them endocannabinoids, endo meaning inside. Not only that, you also have receptors for the plant in your body. So they bind with the receptors, and they the cell how they can best adapt to their environment. And it’s responsible for regulating all the other systems in your body. It keeps you in balance, yes, because it’s regulating everything.
Chantel Ray: Gotcha. All right. Josh in Chesapeake. “I was talking to a friend the other day who told me that celery juice is really good for you. I was really shocked because I’ve always been told that it was primarily water, and I just didn’t have a lot of its substance. What are some of the benefits of celery juice and what is the best way to prepare it?” I’m going to answer that. Because I’m telling you, I started … one thing that I started doing is in the morning around 10:00 a.m., so I’ve been kind of opening my window a little bit earlier to have that celery juice. I just take it. If you need to see the video for that, we’ll put that into the show notes of my recipe of how I make it. But I just do it in the Vitamix.
I literally take one cup of water, I take an entire stock of celery, stick it in the Vitamix, and then I take a cheesecloth and kind of take out some of that pulp. What’s celery juice is known to do is to take … it’s supposed to help your stomach acids to produce. For whatever reason it helps your digestion for the rest of the day. For me, my number one problem and I will bet if you’re listening to this podcast, a huge portion of the people who are listening, their number one problem are gut issues, and digestion issues. A huge piece in digestion is … they’ve shown that if you have thyroid dysfunction, you have low stomach acid. Period, the end. Whether you think you have it or whether you don’t, if you’re having thyroid issues, you have low stomach acid.
That celery juice, with nothing else in it now, nothing else, has really, really helped my digestion. I’m a huge, huge proponent of it. It’s really worked for me, because I used to be taking these different juices. I used to add lemon, and kale, and blah blah blah, and blah blah blah. That’s my routine now. Every day I take that celery juice and have one cup of it. If you take one stock and juice it, it comes out to about eight ounces. I have about eight ounces of celery juice on an empty stomach, and it absolutely helps my digestion.
April Saull: Really, how does it taste?
Chantel Ray: I like it.
April Saull: You do? I’m not a fan of celery.
Chantel Ray: That’s okay. The thing is is that, this is what I tell people, if you don’t like it the first time, who cares, take it anyway. Then take it a second time. Then take it a third time. Perfect example, the first time I tasted coffee I was like, “This is disgusting.” Now I like coffee.
April Saull: Yeah. I’m [crosstalk 00:30:22].
Chantel Ray: It’s kind of like the first time you drink beer. How many people took their first sip of beer and was like, “You know what? I like this.” Who? Who does that? Said no one ever. Right?
April Saull: Right.
Chantel Ray: So the bottom line for me it’s like you get your body … like unsweetened tea, the first time I had unsweetened tea I was like, “Argh, I cannot drink this.” I don’t drink anything but unsweetened tea. You train your body to like what it likes, and it just, you are in control. You just say, “This is what I’m going to do, I’m going to take it.” Now I love it. I can’t wait to start my morning.
April Saull: Really?
Chantel Ray: Yeah.
April Saull: I’m definitely going to give that a try.
Chantel Ray: Yeah. It does a major job with enhancing your stomach acids. All right. Claire in Alexandria. “I’ve been researching the vegan diet, and I know that April is a big fan of it. She said she eats.” Oh my gosh, I have to tell you guys something funny. This weekend, I was eating a lot of fruits and vegetables and people were like, “Are you vegan?” I said, “No, I’m [Me-gan 00:31:29].” They were like, “What?” I was like, “Yeah, I’m a meat-eating vegan.” I said, “I don’t eat any-” because I don’t eat dairy and I don’t eat eggs right now, just because those two things I have found that I don’t feel good. For me, I kind of go, “Okay, how do I feel the best? How do I feel like a million bucks?” When I have dairy, I feel terrible. When I have gluten I feel terrible. When I have eggs I feel terrible. So I don’t eat them.
It’s just been my trial and error. I don’t eat a lot of meat. I’m kind of like you. I probably eat meat once or twice a week, if I’m really craving it, but for the rest of the time, my diet consists of tons of fruits and vegetables.
April Saull: Yes.
Chantel Ray: But, anyway, she said, “I’ve been researching the vegan diet, I know April is a big fan of it.” You must have said something about it on the last podcast.
April Saull: I mean, I don’t really do diets, I just say, “Eat when you’re hungry from the earth.” I don’t like to make things too complicated.
Chantel Ray: I love that.
April Saull: I feel like you can’t go wrong.
Chantel Ray: Yeah, I love that. Eat when you’re hungry from the earth. It says, that should be my next book title. Eat when you’re hungry from the earth. It says, “I’m learning all kinds of stuff about plant-based proteins, I wanted to see which ones you recommend or are your favorite protein sources.” Claire in Alexandria.
April Saull: You know, I’m not big on brands, just because I don’t know really one from another. But I use a lot of hemp protein, just because I’ve had such great results from that plant. I use hemp seeds, and hemp protein, and hemp seed oil. Everything I can that’s legal of course from that plant. Many of them can be found down at The Heritage or your local organic health food store.
Chantel Ray: Yes. We do have a guest coming up on our next show that is a CBD and Cannabis expert, he sells it, that’s what he does full time, that’s all he does. He spends all of his time researching it. If you’ve got questions for him, you can ask them at questions@chantelrayway.com. April it was always a pleasure having you.
April Saull: Thank you.
Chantel Ray: Any last-minute thoughts you want to tell everyone about the CBD or about your diet or anything like that?
April Saull: No, not really. I guess I just want to say that if you have a cancer diagnosis, know that you are curable at any stage.
Chantel Ray: Stage, I love that.
April Saull: Because they will tell you that you’re not.
Chantel Ray: That’s great advice, that’s great advice.
April Saull: It’s important to know, it’s encouraging.
