Ever wanted to know what exactly intermittent fasting is? Find out in this interview video with fasting expert Chantel Ray!

What is intermittent fasting can just kind of explain what that means. What that term means.

Yes. So intermittent fasting is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and periods of eating. And it doesn’t specify like you should eat this or not eat this. And so a lot of people do. I would say the most popular would be a 16-8. Meaning you’d fast for 16 hours. You would eat for eight hours. And a lot of times people add in doing fasting for like a twenty four hours, like a full 24 hours. So that would mean like you’d eat at three o’clock. You wouldn’t eat again until three o’clock the next day. And if you think about it, fasting has been a practice throughout human evolution, like ancient hunter-gatherers didn’t have supermarkets, they didn’t have refrigerators, they didn’t have food available year round. And so sometimes they couldn’t find anything to eat. Then sometimes they found tons to eat. And so, you know, I think that it’s it makes sense for you to not just be eating, you know, every three hours. I mean, I am so anti eating every couple of hours. It’s not even funny.

And if you was out fasting, they have people promoting. You have to eat every two hours. And it’s that’s totally opposite. Yeah.

Yeah. And I mean, if you think about fasting is done for spiritual reasons. Christianity is big on fasting. Islam is big on it. Judaism, Buddhism. I mean, every religion has some sort of fasting involved. And so I just believe that the other thing that I would like to say is that now what they’re they’re saying, but nobody is going to be able to kind of change it now because they’re too far along. I don’t know if you’ve heard of something called time restricted eating. So they’re now saying that intermittent fasting is when you fast for more than 24 hours. So if you went from 3:00 to 3:00 the next day, then you would be actually doing intermittent fasting. They’re saying time restricted eating is when you do a daily fasting during the day. So that means if you just fasted and did and, you know, 16 hour fasting, an eight hour eating window, then that would be now called time restricted eating, which again, it’s like, OK. This boat has sailed, right? Like everyone knows intermittent fasting and they’re just trying to add in. No, it’s now called time restricted eating. But I still call it intermittent fasting.

And I go that route. I’m glad you do that in there, though. So if I’m a search researching and they’re like, that’s not what it’s being called now or they get a little confused now, they’ll know to research either one. And it’s the same thing the way they’re. Yeah, OK.

So there’s different methods, too.

So a lot of times, you know, one of my new favorite things that I’ve started doing is a lot of times people do like those, for once a week or twice a week, you just do a 24 hour fast. And then some people say they call it a five two method, which I’m totally against. But what with that method, you only consume 500 to 600 calories on to non- consecutive days of the week and you eat normally the other five days. And to me, that is a restrictive mindset. Now I’m counting how many calories I’m eating, so I don’t do that.

I don’t count any of my calories as I do like way harder emotionally. Physically.

Yeah, I eat when I’m hungry. I stop before I’m full. I eat what my body’s craving. I eat real whole foods. I don’t deprive myself of anything that I’m eating. If I want something, I have it. I just eat it in my eating window.
